Amazons are generally for the more experienced owners. With an amazon the bigger the cage the better. They can keep themselves amused, if they are provided with toys. They can be good talkers, especially the Double Yellow Head Amazon. They range in size from small to quite large. The Amazon can be a fussy bird and this appears to be triggered by sexual harmonal cycles and lack of proper darktime sleep, of which they require from 9-10 hours per day. The Amazon is a noisy bird and this should be considered by apartment dwellers. They eat vegatbles, fruits, grains and nuts. Fatty foods should be avoided. Their lifespan ranges from 40-85 years. They should be misted regularly to clean their feathers. All in all many are very tame and make good pets. |
